How to use it

Hand your cat one piece and let her take it from there — most cats bite, kick and rub within the first minute. Ten to fifteen minutes at a time is plenty.

Put it away between sessions. The scent stays stronger and she stays interested longer. When a stick goes smooth and stops smelling like much, scuff the surface with your thumbnail to open it back up.

With ten pieces you can rotate rather than leaving the same one out. Novelty is half of why this works.

What's in the set

4 silvervine sticks with gall fruit — a full 8 inches each, wrapped with Hemp rope and raffia grass, finished with a gall fruit ball.

6 coated chew sticks — 5 inches, in three coatings: catnip, ground silvervine, and ground silvervine fruit.

The sticks are cut from Actinidia polygama, sold in Japan as matatabi, and left with the bark on — that's the surface that does the scraping. What your cat reacts to are compounds in the wood and fruit, actinidine and dihydroactinidiolide among them. Silvervine is non-toxic to cats.

Is it safe?

Silvervine is non-toxic, and cats can't overdose on the scent — a strong reaction fades on its own within about 30 minutes.

The thing to actually watch is the same as with any chew. Supervise your cat, and take the piece away once it's been chewed down small enough to swallow whole or has started to splinter. The rope and raffia wrapping can unravel with an enthusiastic chewer; trim loose strands as they appear.

These are bark-on natural sticks, so expect a few shavings where your cat works on one. A mat or a designated spot saves you the sweeping.

Cats over four months only. This is a supervised chew, not a leave-out toy.

Will it work on my cat?

Roughly 8 in 10 cats respond to silvervine. The ones who usually don't: kittens under eight months, pregnant cats, and a minority of adults with no particular pattern to them.

Worth knowing if you've given up on catnip — a cat who ignores it is not a lost cause here. About three quarters of catnip non-responders react to silvervine instead. That's part of why this set carries all three scents rather than betting everything on one.

If your cat lands in the unresponsive minority, email us within 60 days and we'll refund you in full. Don't ship anything back — keep the set, or pass it to a shelter that can use it.

Three scents, because cats disagree

Your cat has an opinion about this and hasn't told you what it is. The set carries all three of the scents cats respond to, so you find the one that lands instead of betting the whole purchase on a single guess.

Catnip-coated

The one most cats have met before. Around 68% respond to it.

Silvervine-coated

Around 80% respond — including about 3 in 4 cats who ignore catnip completely.

Gall fruit-coated

Ground fruit of the silvervine plant — a different, richer scent than the wood alone.

We sell one thing and we'd rather explain it honestly than dress it up. Silvervine works on most cats, not all of them, and it cleans teeth by being chewed — not by magic. No invented statistics, no countdown timer that resets when you reload the page. If it doesn't work on your cat, tell us and we'll make it right.

Product reviews

The first ninety seconds

Most cats decide fast. Biting, rubbing, kicking it with the back feet, occasionally a bit of drool or a sneeze. It looks dramatic and it's all normal — the reaction winds down on its own in about half an hour.

By the end of the week

If yours is a chewer, the thing to watch for isn't the teeth — it's the chair leg she's stopped working on. Ten to fifteen minutes at a time, put away between sessions, rotated across the three scents so it stays novel.

If nothing happens at all

About 2 in 10 cats don't respond to silvervine, and kittens under eight months usually don't at all. Work through the other two scents before you give up — that's the whole reason there are three. If it still lands flat, email us inside 60 days and we'll refund the order. Keep the set.
